The cultural projections on the objects are usually part of the larger context of who uses them: witches. Or what is conjured by them: spirits, ghosts, or demons. Because of the association with something “dark,” the tools themselves have a feeling of Darkness. Hence why crystal balls, potion bottles and broomsticks appear on the shelves as decorations for Halloween. But then again, a jack-o-lantern is as much a magical tool as a cauldron or a wand, considering its original purpose.
There’s a lot of articles already out there either listing common tools or talking over individual tools and how to use them. Some go into the history, origins, variations. I’m not really gonna rehash any of that. Instead, let me throw some thoughts at your process of discovering magical tools that I think are highly important before you buy, make or use any given tool.
