Why do women love the Bad Boy? (and many men want to be him)
Motorcycles, tattoos, long hair, cheap sunglasses, etc. Okay, granted that’s just the stereotype. There are a hundred incarnations of the Bad Boy, from the dapper vampire to the greaser hot rod (I call these archetypes the Dark Prince and the Wild Man, but that’s a subject for another blog). The point is why do we want them? And why can’t we have them?
Yes, some of the baddies out there really are bad. Abusers are real, I’m not idealizing that in any way. But those bastards wouldn’t have a chance if it weren’t for some deeper need that women are seeking (tho not all women I admit; you can’t generalize any statement about any group of people).
So let us turn to the scry glass again: What is it that we hunger for that a true Dark Man has?
Why, we’re seeking the Higher Dark of course.
Okay, first off, you should never look for something you miss within yourself to be filled in by someone else. Fill your own Dark Side out first, then go find a man equally balanced in Dark and Light to hang out with, go play with, fall in madly love with.
The truly strongest Bad Boys are those who can do what I call “riding the Darkness” instead of being “ridden by the Darkness.” I will talk more on this concept later, but it is mostly about self-control: taking responsibility for your choices, and also making wise choices. But wise choices don’t exclude fun and diving in and experiencing life headfirst.
Although you shouldn’t let yourself be trapped by the real bad guys, don’t deny yourself the chance to have some fun with a Bad Boy (or girl) who really is good underneath it all.
